Changelog

What’s new in Skeleton Key, newest first.

Tasks

  • One place to see what still needs doing: all open checklist items from your discussions, plus any tasks that Skeleton Key can automatically detect (like rooms, hotels, and flights you haven't booked yet).

Discussions

  • Where should we stay? Which games make the cut? Who's emailing the venue? That talk usually lives in a group chat, three days of scroll above where you're looking. Every trip now has a Discussions space: open a discussion for anything the group is working through, and keep the conversation, the links, and the to-dos together in one place.
  • Each discussion has a summary up top for capturing context and decisions (Markdown works), links out to the docs and listings you're comparing, a checklist anyone can claim items from, and comments below. Resolve a discussion when it's settled — it stays around for reference.

Plan Around Availability

  • Escape rooms book up, and availability across your schedule can be as important as availability on any given day. Skeleton Key now tracks each game's open times across your whole trip (pulled in automatically where possible, or jotted down by hand otherwise) so you can plan around what you can actually book.
  • Your shortlist shows what needs your attention: a must-play you haven't checked, a room with only a few slots left, or one that's sold out. Sort by availability to see what to focus on first — and when you add a game to a day, you can see right away which days have the best (or worst) options.
  • Planning far enough ahead that the venues haven't opened their calendars yet? When a room hasn't posted its schedule for your dates, Skeleton Key estimates its likely running times from the most recent weeks it has posted — clearly marked as provisional.
  • Some rooms are far harder to book than others — a handful of slots a week, or so popular they fill fast. Skeleton Key gauges each room's booking pressure from its recent weeks and tags the tough ones “hot” (or “hottest”), so you know which to lock in first.

Skeleton Key with AI

  • Skeleton Key began as an experiment in building software with AI, and that's gone well enough that we wanted to try the other direction: giving your own AI assistant the tools to work on your trip, incorporating our best practices for scheduling. It's a pretty open-ended problem, so we think it makes more sense as something your assistant does than another feature in the app.
  • It's early, and we're still learning what works — but promising enough that we wanted to share it. It's entirely optional; nothing about how you plan today changes. To try it, connect your assistant (Claude, ChatGPT, and others) from Skeleton Key with AI in the menu, and tell us how it goes.

Split a Booking's Cost

  • A booking's cost often comes in parts — a deposit online, the balance onsite, sometimes on different cards or in different currencies. You can now record multiple payments on a single booking, each with its own payer and currency, and each synced to Splitwise as its own expense.

Double-Check Your Bookings

  • Booked a room for the wrong day and didn't catch it in time? Paste your confirmation into a game's details and Skeleton Key flags any date that doesn't match the day you've scheduled.

Stay on track

  • Pull up your active trip on mobile to get reminders for when and where you need to be with leave-by times, live travel estimates, navigation shortcuts, and booking details.

Expanded Cost Tracking

  • Track and split costs for activities and travel. Sync to Splitwise just like games.

Printable Itinerary

  • Don't let a dead phone battery stop your trip. Print out a paper copy of your itinerary as a reference
  • Find it under the Share button

Traffic-Aware Drive Times

  • Driving across LA to get from Hatch Escapes to Hope End? Skeleton Key now takes time-of-day and traffic into account when computing travel times
  • Look for the icon on drive time estimates to make sure you leave extra time for traffic
